The Trust is pleased to announce that engineer Robert Silman has joined the Honorary Board of Directors. Mr. Silman’s firm, Robert Silman Associates PC, Consulting Engineers, has been at the forefront of sustainable design strategies and has pioneered non-destructive evaluation techniques for the analysis of historic buildings.
Mr. Silman’s knowledge of a wide range of historic building types led to his appointment by the Office of the Secretary of the Interior to the National Center for Preservation Technology and Training Board where he represents the fields of engineering and preservation education. His firm has worked on more than 300 individual landmarks recognized on federal, state, and city historic registers, as well as scores of other buildings of landmark quality.
Mr. Silman has worked closely with John Beyer of Beyer Blinder Belle Architects and Planners LLP on the Trust’s technical advisory board producing structural retrofit plans that improve seismic performance and are often compatible with traditional building technology. He will continue to contribute his expertise on improving seismic performace for the Patan Royal Palace project.
