UNEXPECTED DISCOVERY

Unexpected discovery in Yetkha Bahal
Nobody assumed to find wall paintings in this ancient shrine house, but after taking a stone image off the wall, the same deity appeared, but painted on mud plaster!

"Singhini" is a guardian deity, who is protecting with her counterpart "Vyaghini" the entrance to a secret shrine.

Hidden and therefore well protected by the stone image, this spirited painting is well preserved. It is carried out in three colors only: white, red and black.

This painting most likely dates back to the origin of the shrine house in the 18th century, and belongs herewith to the oldest extant murals in Nepal.
