A vision to illuminate Patan Darbar Square for night-time activation
Based on a concept by architect and professorWolfgang Rang and his Frankfurt-based firm, Atelier Rang, internationally recognized for their pioneering approach to lighting and architecture, KVPT experimented with locally available light fixtures to illuminate monuments recently rebuilt and restored by the organization: Char Narayana, Harishankara, Bhimsen, Krishna, and Visvesvara temples, along with the Yognarendra Statue. While the results were visually compelling in the short term, the locally sourced fixtures proved inadequate in terms of durability.
Building on this concept, the next phase of the project envisions a broader lighting plan to transform the urbanscape, extending across the Palace wings and the Bhandarkhal tank and archaeological garden, and eventually to the surrounding residential buildings, with higher-quality fixtures designed to achieve a lasting impact.
