Kathmandu Valley Preservation Trust is a United States tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization. Contributions to KVPT are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

KVPT's work is supported entirely through donations that go toward restoration and rebuilding projects—your contributions enable us to continue our mission of safeguarding the extraordinary built heritage of Kathmandu Valley. Most recently, through the generous support of a diverse mix of local, international, private, public, and institutional donors, we have been able to successfully complete over fifty historic building projects as part of our Earthquake Response Campaign following the devastating 2015 earthquake.

Your generosity helps safeguard the Valley’s living history for future generations, thus we kindly request your continued support.

Current

This year, join us in supporting our ongoing work in Patan. Your contribution directly strengthens our efforts to:

  • Preserve a significant ensemble of early Buddhist architecture at the monastery of Mubaha, which has the potential to become the crowning feature of Pimbaha Pukhu, Patan’s newly-popular urban node

  • Advance critical research and documentation on seismic strengthening strategies developed since the 2015 earthquake

  • Enhance the Royal Square with an expanded night-lighting program that celebrates its architectural and cultural heritage

Past Fundraisers & Events

Founded in 1991 as a New York–based non-profit, KVPT introduced to Nepal a U.S.-style private-charity framework, leveraging networks of international donors, foundations, and individual supporters to advance architectural heritage conservation. By raising all project funds through international philanthropy, the Trust pioneered turnkey projects and enabled the fair employment of master artisans beyond government constraints. Working in close partnership with public institutions while operating with private flexibility and funding, KVPT established a powerful public–private model that elevates craftsmanship, ensures quality, and remains one of the region’s most effective approaches to safeguarding built heritage.
